Parkland’s Operational Excellence Management System (POEMS)

POEMS

POEMS establishes our approach to Health, Safety, and the Environment (HSE) across Parkland. POEMS is structured to enhance our HSE performance through Operational Excellence culture, Elements & Governing Principles, and a continuous improvement cycle.

Environmental Stewardship

We power what moves people and aim to do this while working to mitigate our impact on the environment. We are committed to:

  • encouraging safe work practices to help:

    • protect the environment and enhance environmental awareness within our teams;

    • mitigate our environmental impact

  • monitoring environmental performance and reporting regularly on environmental issues as required

  • consulting with Indigenous and local communities and other stakeholders on environmental issues as required

Emergency Management

Our expert teams are trained to respond quickly and effectively in the unlikely event of an emergency.

  • Prevent

    Identify, assess, and prioritize the risks associated with operations, and develop plans to mitigate the risk.

  • Prepare

    Develop and maintain plans to respond to significant and credible risks associated with operations.

  • Respond

    Use a standardized on-scene emergency management system for emergency response. Response personnel are to be identified, trained, and deemed competent to respond to emergencies.

  • Recover

    Ensure plans are in place to return business operations to normal following an emergency response.

Recent amendments to Canada’s Competition Act have introduced changes to representations to the public concerning the protection or restoration of the environment or mitigating the environmental and ecological causes or effects of climate change (collectively, “Environmental Statements”) unless they can be adequately and properly substantiated in accordance with internationally recognized methodology. There is uncertainty in how these legislative amendments will be interpreted and applied, and we are awaiting guidance from the Competition Bureau regarding them. As a result, we are currently reviewing our disclosure practices with respect to Environmental Statements. While Parkland has decided to keep past Environmental Statements on its website, they are available strictly as historical information and for reference purposes only. These Environmental Statements are not to be interpreted as active representations by Parkland or any of its affiliates and subsidiaries. Parkland disclaims all liability for the use of any Environmental Statement for any other purpose. Parkland remains committed to its sustainability journey, including working towards lowering our environmental impact and helping our customers lower theirs.
